In Spring 2008, a tender was issued by the LSE for the development of a comprehensive wayfinding and signage strategy incorporating both internal and external signage, to build a brand awareness on to the street and create a university quarter. Eight companies responded, three were shortlisted and fwdesign subsequently won the pitch.

Following an extensive wayfinding strategy that spanned two London boroughs, numerous disparate buildings and a complete rethink of the naming system for rooms and buildings, designs were developed that exploited the LSE’s red branding and combined a modular sign system with bespoke graphics and finishes.

The New Academic Building on Lincoln's Inn Fields was the first to utilise the LSE’s new wayfinding system, with the addition of donor boards commemorating those who have helped to fund the build.
