The University of Sussex had multiple wayfinding issues – primarily around accessibility – as a result of its complex topology and architectural language, and so asked fwdesign to address these problems

Our strategy addressed the requirements of whole campus and all users, however budgets dictated a phased approach. The first phase was a new campus map that could be used in the existing information structures and was incorporated into the University's online and printed communications. Following this a vehicular and pedestrian wayfinding strategy was developed and has been implemented through a distinctive design concept which is based on an 'open frame' structure that is sympathetic to the architecture. It also provides a modular, easily updateable approach for temporary and event information. The choice of materials is durable and reflects the architectural palette.
